is decidedly rural in nature with large, nearly level farms in hay, crops and grazing. There are many old, historic plantations especially in the Green Springs area which is a protected, historic district about 25 minutes east of Charlottesville. The County seat of Louisa is a bustling small town of about 1400 with a charming character typical of rural Virginia. In 1970 Virginia Power created Lake Anna, a 13,000-acre lake which is one of the largest in the state and offers exciting recreational opportunities. Like Fluvanna County, Louisa lies between Charlottesville and Richmond and will very likely expect some significant growth in the next decade or so.
